Description

  • Implement gameplay systems from designer briefs, including combat, abilities, movement, AI behaviors, progression, inventory, interaction, and camera systems.
  • Build reusable, maintainable, and testable gameplay code in C++ and Blueprint within Unreal Engine 5.
  • Own Gameplay Ability System implementations, including AttributeSets, Abilities, GameplayEffects, and GameplayCues where applicable.
  • Implement animation-to-gameplay integration, including Anim Notifies, state-driven Anim Blueprints, root motion handling, and blendspaces.
  • Develop multiplayer-safe gameplay code where networking is required, including replication, client-server authority, and lag compensation.
  • Profile and optimize gameplay code to meet platform performance budgets, including CPU frame time, tick overhead, and replication cost.
  • Catch and fix gameplay bugs, including edge cases, exploit patterns, and regressions from live updates.
  • Collaborate directly with gameplay designers to translate design intent into engine behavior and identify implementation risks early.
  • Expose gameplay parameters to designers through tunable tools such as Blueprint properties and data-driven tables.
  • Document systems clearly and support technical handoffs across phases and teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional game development experience, including at least 3 years on AAA or mid-tier shipped titles.
  • At least 2 shipped commercial titles on PC or console as a gameplay engineer; prototypes and internal tools do not count.
  • Deep Unreal Engine 5 C++ experience with the Gameplay Framework, GAS, CharacterMovement, and animation Blueprint integration.
  • Strong C++ fundamentals, including memory management, data-oriented thinking, and performance-aware coding.
  • Blueprint proficiency, including the ability to build designer-facing tooling.
  • Experience with multiplayer gameplay replication is preferred for some engagements.
  • Strong game design sensibility and the ability to explain gameplay quality and issues clearly.
  • Clear remote-first communication habits, including writing things down and avoiding silent dependencies.
  • Online multiplayer systems experience, including Actor replication, GameplayEffects replication, ability prediction, and correction, is preferred.
  • Console platform experience, including certification pipelines and platform-specific constraints, is preferred.
  • Gameplay AI experience in Unreal Engine 5, including Behavior Trees, EQS, and AI Perception, is preferred.
  • Prior co-development or external development experience is preferred.
