Description

  • Design, build, train, evaluate, and improve machine learning and LLM-based systems for patient- and provider-facing products.
  • Own problems end to end, from scoping with clinicians and product partners through dataset creation, modeling, production deployment, and monitoring.
  • Develop robust evaluation frameworks, including offline benchmarks, human-in-the-loop review, and online experiments.
  • Build and improve data pipelines, training and inference infrastructure, prompt and model management, and reviewer tooling.
  • Partner with clinicians, product managers, and engineers to translate medical and operational needs into ML solutions.
  • Set technical direction for your area and mentor other engineers, with leadership scope increasing by seniority.
  • Stay current with the research literature and evolving AI ecosystem and apply useful advances to the team.
  • Ship measurable improvements to patient and clinician experience through reliable production systems.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning systems, including generative AI/LLMs, with a clear track record of impact.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to ship reliable, well-tested code in Python or a comparable language in production.
  • Practical understanding of modern LLM techniques, including prompting, retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning, and evaluation.
  • Comfort working with messy, real-world data and designing evaluations to determine whether a system is working.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across clinical, product, and engineering teams.
  • A bias toward action and ownership, with the ability to drive ambiguous problems to a result.
  • Commitment to Curai’s mission of improving health outcomes for real patients.
  • Experience applying ML or LLMs in healthcare, life sciences, or another regulated, high-stakes domain, preferred.
  • Experience with clinical NLP, medical knowledge representation, or electronic health record data, preferred.
  • Experience building agentic systems or tool-using LLMs in production, preferred.
  • Experience scaling ML infrastructure such as training pipelines, distributed inference, or evaluation platforms, preferred.
  • Technical leadership experience, such as setting direction across teams, mentoring engineers, or publishing influential work, preferred.
