Description

  • Own system architecture across multiple concurrent client projects.
  • Define and enforce architectural standards, design patterns, and non-functional requirements.
  • Make final technical decisions on stack selection, integrations, and trade-offs.
  • Design scalable, resilient systems spanning frontend, backend, cloud, and hardware-adjacent integrations.
  • Lead technical planning and execution for large, high-stakes client engagements.
  • Remain hands-on in critical code paths while delegating effectively to other engineers.
  • Drive engineering rigor through code reviews, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability practices.
  • Own technical outcomes including production stability and incident response.
  • Translate ambiguous client requirements into concrete technical plans and act as a senior technical authority in client meetings.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the growth of senior and mid-level engineers, including hiring, onboarding, and technical evaluation.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership as a Lead Engineer, Tech Lead, or Architect.
  • Prior experience working at a software agency or consultancy delivering client projects.
  • Proven ownership of end-to-end system architecture.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills.
  • Deep experience delivering production systems under deadlines.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, shifting priorities, and a multi-client environment.
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks, with React preferred.
  • Experience with backend systems such as Node.js, TypeScript, or comparable technologies.
  • AWS experience is strongly preferred; experience with REST, real-time systems, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, logging, performance, security, and fault-tolerant design is also preferred.
  • Preferred experience with interactive installations, IoT, real-world systems, experience design, spatial computing, or hardware-adjacent software.

Benefits

  • $140,000 to $170,000 annual salary, with final compensation based on total related experience.
  • Fully remote position.
  • Occasional travel for client sites, installations, and planning.
  • San Diego-based candidates may optionally work from the headquarters.
