Description

  • Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged FOIA requests.
  • Intake incoming requests and prepare FOIA request folders.
  • Enter request data into the FOIA tracking database.
  • Draft response letters and other FOIA correspondence.
  • Communicate and negotiate with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors, regulated industry representatives, and contractors regarding requested records and proposed releases.
  • Serve as a liaison with requesters and, on rare occasions, other agencies and appellants on multi-component matters.
  • Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicate records.
  • Review program records for responsiveness and make release determinations.
  • Ensure released materials do not contain information exempt under applicable FOIA exemptions.

Requirements

  • 6 years of experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations, including applying exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6).
  • Experience redacting records containing trade secrets and confidential commercial information.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Prior federal government experience is preferred.
  • Experience with FOIA tools such as FOIA EXPRESS is preferred.
  • Experience using SecureRelease is preferred.
  • Active security clearance is preferred.
