Description

  • Advise product and business teams on the design, structuring, and launch of new products and features.
  • Assess how crypto and web3 products fit within applicable regulatory frameworks and identify when licensing or registration changes are needed.
  • Produce regulatory analysis on issues such as token classification, financial product classification, derivatives, and DeFi, and turn it into practical business positions.
  • Lead and support license applications end to end, including submissions, regulator responses, and obligation tracking.
  • Track regulatory developments across crypto, web3, fintech, and payments and translate them into actionable guidance.
  • Identify legal and regulatory issues early and provide clear strategic guidance to stakeholders.
  • Embed compliance into product design, including AML, KYC, sanctions, and travel rule considerations.
  • Review marketing, customer-facing materials, paid placements, and sponsorships for regulatory and disclosure compliance.
  • Advise on conflicts of interest, including those involving affiliated venues or group entities.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts and support cross-functional responses to internal, external, and regulator inquiries.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with 4 to 7 years PQE.
  • Ideally in-house experience with direct advising experience for crypto or web3 businesses.
  • Exposure to payments or financial services regulation is a strong plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of crypto, web3, fintech, or financial services regulatory frameworks applied to real products.
  • Working knowledge of financial promotions and advertising/marketing regulation, including paid placement, sponsorship, and disclosure requirements.
  • Familiarity with trading, brokerage, or market infrastructure regulation and the ability to recognize regulated activities.
  • Track record across regulatory, licensing, product, and commercial work.
  • Comfort working across multiple jurisdictions and quickly learning unfamiliar regimes.
  • Ability to work autonomously under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain issues to non-lawyers.
  • Practical, solution-oriented approach with initiative to spot issues early.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience with licensing or registration regimes for crypto, payments, or financial services providers, such as VASP regimes (preferred).
  • Familiarity with multi-region frameworks such as MiCA, UK and US regimes, or APAC, EMEA, and LATAM markets (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of AML, KYC, sanctions, and consumer or data protection rules (preferred).
  • Experience engaging directly with regulators (preferred).
  • Ability to speak and write in Chinese is a plus.
  • Awareness of AI-related regulatory issues in financial or crypto products is welcome but not required.
