Description

  • Own the technical roadmap for tax engineering systems, including cost basis tracking, gain/loss calculation, withholding automation, and reporting infrastructure.
  • Lead and grow a 12-person engineering team, coaching performance and supporting career development.
  • Build extensible tax primitives that support new products across equities, margin, options, and other offerings.
  • Partner with Product, Design, trading, Legal, Compliance, and Finance teams to turn complex regulatory needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Drive delivery of mission-critical reporting pipelines, automated withholding deduction, and Apex clearing integrations.
  • Shape engineering practices for testing, data validation, operational rigor, and high-quality execution in a correctness-critical domain.
  • Partner with Talent to recruit and hire strong engineering talent.
  • Maintain architecture and execution standards that support accuracy, reliability, and scale across Coinbase's tax compliance systems.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in building and scaling distributed systems.
  • 2+ years of engineering management experience, including coaching engineers, managing performance, and building high-performing teams.
  • Hands-on technical depth comparable to a Staff Engineer, with the ability to dive into architecture, code, and technical decisions.
  • Experience building data-intensive systems where accuracy, auditability, and scale are critical, such as financial systems or compliance infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture, data pipelines, and reliability trade-offs in high-volume systems.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Legal, Compliance, or Finance teams.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with evolving products and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots such as LibreChat, Gemini, and Glean in daily workflows.
  • Experience with tax systems, cost basis engines, 1099 reporting, or financial compliance infrastructure is preferred.
  • Familiarity with equities, options, or margin trading, or strong interest in learning brokerage domains, is preferred.
  • Background at a tech-focused company such as fintech, crypto, or a high-growth startup is preferred.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary range of $218,025 to $256,500 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
  • Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
