Description

  • Design, build, and operate customer-facing backend services primarily in PHP and Java.
  • Develop APIs, data models, integrations, asynchronous processes, and event-driven services using PostgreSQL, Kafka, REST, and gRPC.
  • Own technical work end-to-end from design and implementation through deployment and production operation.
  • Improve scalability, resilience, performance, security, and maintainability across distributed systems.
  • Manage observability, automated testing, release quality, production support, and incident response within the on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, Security, and engineering teams to resolve ambiguous requirements.
  • Use Claude Code as an AI-first implementation tool while maintaining rigorous review, testing, and production standards.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, pair programming, documentation, mentoring, and engineering process improvements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building, shipping, and operating production software applications.
  • Strong proficiency in PHP and/or Java, with comfort contributing to a polyglot codebase.
  • Knowledge of maintainable architecture, automated testing, debugging, performance, security, and operational reliability.
  • Experience with API design, relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems, REST, gRPC, and service integrations.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD, observability, and production incident response.
  • Ability to own complex work end-to-end, navigate ambiguity, and make pragmatic technical trade-offs.
  • Strong product sense, customer empathy, written communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience shipping production code with AI coding agents.
  • Business-level English fluency and authorization to work in the position’s location without visa sponsorship.
