Description

  • Set the technical direction for Athena’s clearing house, including architecture decisions across validation pipelines, entitlement systems, workflow orchestration, upstream reconciliation, OSV publication, and coalition interfaces.
  • Lead the evolution of the product from rapid prototyping to a sustainable, production-grade stack with strong observability, incident handling, and operational rigor.
  • Partner with staff engineers to define domain ownership and establish technical standards across the team.
  • Design systems that ingest unstructured vulnerability reports from enterprise customers, deduplicate findings, and surface clean signals to the remediation team.
  • Identify and remove technical debt introduced during the team’s high-velocity prototyping phase.
  • Advise on build-vs-buy decisions, capacity planning, and long-term architectural investments.
  • Contribute to hiring and help set a bar for engineers who can sustain high output without burning out.
  • Scale the team and the product area as Athena grows.

Requirements

  • Track record of setting technical direction for complex, production-facing distributed systems.
  • Deep fluency in Go; experience with GCP and Terraform is required.
  • Experience working with messy, unstructured data and extracting signal through validation and deduplication.
  • Experience helping teams transition from prototypes to maintainable systems, including monitoring, alerting, SLOs, and on-call practices.
  • Experience building systems that support multiple customer types with different entitlements, access levels, and interaction patterns.
  • Comfort working across the full backend stack, including workflows, data pipelines, and APIs, with minimal hand-holding.
  • Security-adjacent background in supply chain, vulnerability management, or cloud security is preferred.
  • Polyglot engineers who can quickly learn new stacks are welcome.
  • Opinions about cost-efficient AI usage and resource allocation are a plus.
