Description

  • Ship production-grade reference implementations that demonstrate best practices with Buildkite.
  • Build and maintain tools and plugins that solve real problems and strengthen the ecosystem.
  • Show up in technical community conversations with precise, useful answers and troubleshoot edge cases with customers and the community.
  • Create public-facing content and moments such as demos, walkthroughs, posts, events, livestreams, and workshops that build Buildkite’s presence.
  • Turn customer work and real-world usage into credible technical stories and proof points.
  • Identify and nurture community champions, maintainers, power users, and potential speakers.
  • Design community pathways that move engineers from curious users to confident practitioners to public advocates.
  • Build tight feedback loops with Product, Engineering, and Support to route issues, surface gaps, and drive action.
  • Represent Buildkite with authority and personality across the Bay Area and at industry events, with some travel in North America.
  • Measure and report on trust-building, community signals, and distribution loops in a lightweight, repeatable operating cadence.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering background with CI fluency and experience shipping and operating production systems.
  • Deep debugging and systems-thinking ability to reduce complex, multi-factor failures into actionable conclusions.
  • Comfort being a visible public-facing voice and being recognized in developer communities.
  • Excellent technical communication skills with precision and empathy.
  • High-agency collaboration skills and the ability to own problems end to end in a cross-functional environment.
  • Comfort working asynchronously in a high-trust, remote-first environment.
  • Experience building or maintaining CI platforms, developer tooling, plugins, or infrastructure at scale is a plus.
  • Public technical proof such as OSS contributions, talks, technical writing, credible demos, or a trusted community presence is a plus.
  • Experience shaping dev-facing narrative and turning messy reality into clear, technically honest storytelling is a plus.
  • Experience organizing meetups, workshops, office hours, or community programs is a plus.
