Description

  • Provide legal advice on matters affecting BCI’s operations and obligations.
  • Support the formulation, review, and implementation of internal governance policies.
  • Draft legal opinions, memoranda, briefing documents, and other legal materials.
  • Advise on dispute settlement formalities and monitor implementation of legal clauses.
  • Assess legal risks across employment, contract, privacy, competition, and related areas.
  • Provide legal insight on blockchain and emerging technologies in climate action frameworks.
  • Advise on charity, corporate, fundraising, marketing, data protection, trademark, copyright, defamation, and litigation issues.
  • Work with BCI divisions and stakeholders to evaluate the legal impact of decisions and actions.
  • Develop legal strategy and objectives for relevant projects and organizational matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree in Law (e.g., LLB or GDL) for Legal Assistant level.
  • Qualification equivalent to a UK solicitor or barrister for Legal Advisor level.
  • At least 3 years of post-qualification experience for Senior Legal Advisor level.
  • At least 7 years of post-qualification experience for Principal Legal Advisor level.
  • Some in-house experience is highly preferable.
  • Proven experience in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Broad common law legal knowledge in areas such as corporate, contract, employment, and litigation law.
  • Excellent English writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent use of Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
  • Knowledge of climate change, climate finance, and blockchain technology is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work effectively, and pay excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to build constructive stakeholder relationships.
