Description

  • Develop and own the productized software architecture for ground segment support of customer satellite missions and programs.
  • Architect, design, and manage software requirements and target architectures for systems and subsystems within the ground segment.
  • Distill and align requirements across customers, programs, the product roadmap, and BlackSky’s strategic vision.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into engineering specifications and architecture decisions.
  • Evaluate system changes and additions, including impacts to risk, resources, and schedule.
  • Maintain accurate and complete architecture documentation.
  • Coordinate execution across software development, systems engineering, program, and product teams to align development plans and integrate capabilities.
  • Work with engineering teams on system design elements such as interfaces, data models, integration patterns, standards, and best practices.
  • Support customer program capture and execution by aligning work to a common missions ground architecture.
  • Act as a liaison between technical and non-technical teams and help resolve customer issues and difficult problems.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of related work experience, including at least 5 years in systems architecture or systems engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
  • Experience architecting complex software systems.
  • Ability to decompose complex problems into components and work through tradeoffs.
  • Familiarity with agile development, enterprise design patterns, and coding standards.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and on-premises software deployments.
  • Experience designing software APIs, system integrations, and data models.
  • Experience with the full software engineering lifecycle from concept through operations and maintenance, including tools such as JIRA and Git.
  • Experience documenting architectures, interfaces, and functional and non-functional requirements using systems engineering best practices.
  • Strong communication skills for working across Engineering, Sales, Customers, and Product Management.
  • Experience developing concepts of operations and derived engineering requirements from complex customer and mission needs.
  • Basic algorithm or modeling experience to develop rulesets for system behavior and productize high-level features.
  • Proficiency in Golang, C++, or Python.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance and be a U.S. citizen.
  • Preferred: 15+ years of related work experience, including at least 5 years in systems architecture or systems engineering.
  • Preferred: Experience developing software for on-premises air-gapped environments.
  • Preferred: Experience with satellite ground segment components such as command and control, mission planning, ground stations, flight software, order management, image production, or AI/ML systems.
  • Preferred: Former software engineering or software architecture experience for production systems, especially in space, command and control, mission planning, or data processing.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with DevOps and Kubernetes infrastructure and deployments.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in engineering.
