Description

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including SaaS subscription agreements, MSAs, DPAs, vendor agreements, and NDAs.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates, standard clauses, and fallback positions to improve consistency and reduce repeat work.
  • Identify legal, regulatory, contractual, and privacy risks early and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as a key legal partner to the Risk and Compliance team by providing guidance, issue analysis, and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Experience, Product, Engineering, Security, and Finance teams on business and legal risk matters.
  • Act as the organization’s designated Privacy Officer or privacy lead and oversee compliance with applicable privacy and data protection laws.
  • Coordinate with external counsel on specialized or complex matters and manage outside legal work efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Build and maintain legal documentation, playbooks, and internal guidance to support better decision-making.
  • Support general corporate, compliance, and governance matters, including due diligence and strategic initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of legal experience with a strong foundation in commercial contracts, legal risk, and compliance, ideally in a software or technology environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to take ownership of problems and find a path forward, including issues outside your comfort zone.
  • Proactive approach to identifying risks, asking the right questions, and escalating when needed.
  • Ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Curiosity about how businesses work and a desire to understand the company from the inside out.
  • Clear, practical communication skills that make legal guidance easier to apply.
  • Humble, eager to learn, and comfortable asking for help when needed.
  • Pragmatic, business-minded approach to legal risk that balances protection with speed.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, or willingness to become one upon successful selection.
  • In-house experience, particularly in a SaaS or technology-driven organization, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with privacy, data protection, and security concepts in a software business context is preferred.
  • Experience supporting a company in the $10M-$50M revenue range is preferred.
  • Exposure to contract lifecycle management tools or contract automation is preferred.
