Description

  • Analyze Spark and YARN job resource usage to identify inefficiencies such as CPU idle time, memory waste, timeouts, and small file issues.
  • Build job profiling systems, including job classification, resource baseline modeling, and historical trend analysis.
  • Produce optimization reports and work with business owners to implement performance improvements.
  • Use AI coding tools to accelerate development and delivery of internal tools and automation.
  • Participate in EMR and S3 cost optimization efforts by analyzing high-cost jobs and storage usage and driving remediation actions.
  • Develop automated operations scripts for scheduled health checks, anomaly alerting, and data governance policy deployment.
  • Help build internal SaaS tooling to automate and productize repetitive manual operations.
  • Maintain and improve monitoring systems using Prometheus metrics, alerts, and log analysis.
  • Support Flink and Spark job health monitoring development.
  • Assist with capacity alerting and governance across disk, S3, and other storage layers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient in Python and able to write clean, maintainable scripts and tools independently.
  • Must be fluent in AI coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude for development and troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments, including running programs on servers, reading logs, and debugging issues.
  • Experience with Spark, Hive, or Flink is a plus, even through coursework.
  • Familiarity with AWS basics such as S3, EMR, and Athena is preferred.
  • Experience writing Shell scripts or setting up crontab scheduled tasks is a bonus.
  • Experience with Kafka, Prometheus, or other message queue and monitoring systems is a plus.
  • A completed project using AI tools and the ability to explain how they were used is preferred.
  • Bilingual English and Mandarin is an added advantage for coordinating with overseas partners and stakeholders.
