Description

  • Oversee quarterly analysis of loss and loss adjustment expense reserves and provide reserve data to Finance for external financial reporting.
  • Research key drivers of reserve changes, including emerging claim types, claim frequency and severity trends, and loss development patterns and diagnostics.
  • Manage and direct the reserving team, including Actuaries and Analysts, to complete recurring assignments within tight timelines.
  • Turn data into actionable information to support organizational decisions and present findings to Senior Leadership.
  • Select actuarial assumptions and methods based on available data and explain and defend those assumptions to peers, leaders, and non-actuaries.
  • Develop and maintain analytical standards and procedures, including peer reviews, to ensure consistent analysis, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activity and incorporate benefit and rate changes into actuarial analyses.
  • Prepare and present ad hoc research and reporting.
  • Participate in industry professional organizations and rating committees while representing the company’s strategic interests.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership to support enterprise initiatives and operationalize organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Experience in actuarial work with responsibility for loss reserve analysis or related reserving functions.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of Actuaries and Analysts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including the ability to evaluate complex data and identify root causes.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to Senior Leadership and other diverse audiences using effective data visualizations.
  • Experience selecting, reviewing, and defending actuarial assumptions and methods.
  • Familiarity with legislative and regulatory monitoring and incorporating benefit and rate changes into actuarial work.
  • Strong interpersonal, business, and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with executives and stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to San Francisco quarterly.
  • Professional engagement with industry organizations and rating committees is preferred.
  • Experience driving innovation, improving processes, and working with new technologies and techniques is preferred.
