Description

  • Provide railroad project management services for public highway projects requiring railroad coordination.
  • Work with local and state government agency sponsors on at-grade railroad-highway crossing design oversight and construction coordination.
  • Review initial project requests from agencies, citizens, consultants, and developers that may affect railroad property or right of way.
  • Review Outside Party plan submissions for compliance with railroad standards, MUTCD, and AREMA.
  • Serve in a seller-doer role by balancing technical delivery with client interaction and relationship building.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, technical memoranda, and project correspondence for clients and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the owning railroad’s managers and manage cost-effective project coordination.
  • Review project work plans with team members and agency designers.
  • Manage project updates, process improvements, and maintenance of project databases and records.
  • Monitor project budget, scope, quality control, schedule estimates, and compliance with quality procedures.
  • Coordinate inspection and construction monitoring requirements with field personnel and travel to project sites as needed.
  • Schedule and conduct project meetings, coordinate with sub-consultants, assist with agreements, and support contract negotiations and conflict resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering preferred; any engineering degree preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, PDF tools, MicroStation, and other productivity software.
  • Strong understanding of MUTCD, AREMA, regulatory codes, standards, and best practices for Railroad-Highway at-grade crossings.
  • Experience either as a railroad employee working in public projects or as a DOT employee working on railroad coordination.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Leadership skills and ability to take ownership of assigned projects.
  • Experience leading projects across multiple states and progressing projects from preliminary engineering through construction, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of railroad and highway infrastructure projects, preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT project delivery processes, Railroad-DOT agreements, phasing, and regulatory rules.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with local and state agency project sponsors.
