Description

  • Lead architecture and design for complex Datastore systems, APIs, pipelines, and services.
  • Design and scale PostgreSQL data models, Kafka event pipelines, GraphQL APIs, and third-party integrations.
  • Own pipelines delivering dataset snapshots to the data warehouse.
  • Translate product, clinical, scientific, and partner requirements into platform solutions.
  • Debug and profile cross-system problems while improving structure, tooling, tests, and maintainability.
  • Draft RFCs, lead technical discovery, and align stakeholders on implementation decisions.
  • Plan individual and team work while balancing speed, generalizability, and technical debt.
  • Mentor engineers, provide feedback, and contribute to engineering practices and technical leadership.
  • Improve operational robustness through documentation, tools, dashboards, and stakeholder feedback.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of backend development experience, including 3+ years with data platforms or backend infrastructure.
  • Advanced expertise in data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering.
  • Strong production experience with PostgreSQL, complex SQL, schema design, indexes, query plans, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Kafka or equivalent event-streaming systems such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
  • Proficiency in Python or Julia; Julia experience is preferred.
  • Experience operating containerized services with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Helm.
  • For the Datastore Systems focus: GraphQL, TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and end-to-end event-driven pipeline design.
  • For the PostgreSQL focus: query planning, EXPLAIN (ANALYZE), schema evolution, zero-downtime migrations, replication, backups, pooling, vacuum, and production operations.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and improving team practices, tooling, testing, or documentation.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, self-direction, and experience working in remote or asynchronous teams; LLM-assisted coding experience is a plus.
