Description

  • Own end-to-end payroll processing for US employees and applicable contractors on a bi-weekly or semi-monthly cycle.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy for salary changes, bonuses, garnishments, tax withholding, and retroactive adjustments.
  • Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll data and maintain audit-ready records and reporting.
  • Monitor federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements and proactively flag compliance risks.
  • Serve as the primary contact for payroll, tax, and benefits questions and resolve employee discrepancies quickly.
  • Support year-end payroll activities including W-2s, ACA reporting, and required tax filings.
  • Administer the company’s equity program, including grants, exercises, cancellations, terminations, and employee communications.
  • Manage leave administration for FMLA, state-specific leaves, parental leave, medical leave, and company leave policies.
  • Own day-to-day benefits administration, open enrollment, qualifying life events, and monthly invoice reconciliation.
  • Support unemployment claims, state and local tax compliance, and compensation data maintenance for pay bands and reviews.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in payroll, benefits, or HR operations, ideally across at least two of the core functional areas.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll software.
  • Working knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax law and leave regulations such as FMLA and state PFL.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience analyzing datasets.
  • Experience administering benefits programs, including open enrollment coordination.
  • Strong attention to detail and discretion when handling sensitive employee data.
  • Clear, empathetic communication skills for employee-facing support.
  • Experience with equity administration platforms such as Carta, Pulley, or similar is preferred.
  • Exposure to equity plan mechanics, including option types, vesting schedules, 409A, and related tax concepts, is preferred.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment is preferred.
  • HR certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP, CPP, or similar is preferred.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms such as Rippling, Deel, Workday, or BambooHR is preferred.
