Description

  • Lead end-to-end physical integration of the robot’s visual perception stack from prototype to production-ready camera assemblies.
  • Define electrical, optical, and mechanical specifications for custom sensor modules when off-the-shelf components are insufficient.
  • Drive optical vendors and contract manufacturers through build, validation, and deployment processes.
  • Own bring-up, DVT, and end-of-line test plans for custom sensor modules.
  • Perform hands-on ISP tuning and image quality validation on the robot in real-world environments.
  • Lead electrical bring-up and debugging of multi-gigabit video links such as GMSL2/3 and FPD-Link.
  • Measure and validate hardware-level synchronization across cameras, LiDAR, and IMUs with sub-microsecond timing accuracy.
  • Design and deploy calibration fixtures and align optical systems for scalable lab-to-factory calibration.
  • Resolve cross-functional design-for-excellence conflicts involving industrial design, mechanical, and thermal constraints.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for critical hardware issues and mentor engineers through rigorous physical testing practices.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience integrating and shipping complex vision hardware systems.
  • Experience taking perception hardware from breadboard phase through DVT and into mass production.
  • Proven experience working with optical vendors, CMOS manufacturers, and contract manufacturers on custom camera or sensor modules.
  • Expert-level proficiency with high-end lab equipment such as high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and TDRs.
  • Deep practical understanding of CMOS sensor tuning and optical lens artifacts such as flare, ghosting, and distortion.
  • Strong knowledge of linear algebra and 3D geometry for multi-camera arrays, stereo baselines, and visual-inertial sensor fusion.
  • Ability to write scripts in Python or C++ to validate models on real hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where shipping robust solutions matters more than perfection.
  • Experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or advanced AR/VR platforms is required.
  • Experience with custom sensor module development is preferred.
