Description

  • Define, instrument, and maintain Discovery metrics across web, mobile, and TV.
  • Own the A/B testing and experimentation pipeline for Discovery surfaces.
  • Analyze member behavior across platforms to understand browsing, engagement, voting, conversion, and churn patterns.
  • Apply causal inference methods to separate correlation from causation in engagement and retention data.
  • Build and maintain dbt models, data pipelines, and analytical infrastructure for the Discovery team.
  • Create and maintain evaluation metrics for recommendation systems, including precision, recall, coverage, and diversity.
  • Surface insights that influence product prioritization and roadmap decisions.
  • Evaluate new recommendation signals and prototype model improvements as the team moves beyond AWS Personalize.
  • Support the transition from analysis to model ownership, including feature engineering, monitoring, and retraining considerations.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience as a data scientist or in a senior analytical role.
  • Experience with large-scale user engagement and behavior data.
  • Experience in streaming, entertainment, marketplace, or consumer subscription domains is preferred.
  • Strong statistical rigor, including power analysis, multiple comparisons, confidence intervals, and Bayesian methods where appropriate.
  • Experience designing, running, and analyzing A/B tests in production.
  • Familiarity with causal inference methods such as propensity score matching, difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, or regression discontinuity.
  • Advanced SQL and Python fluency for exploration, analysis, modeling, and automation.
  • Experience with dbt or an equivalent data transformation framework.
  • Familiarity with modern data tools such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, GrowthBook, Optimizely, Rill, or Looker.
  • Experience with recommendation systems or personalization is a strong plus, but not required.
  • Ability to write Python in a software-engineering style, including tests, packaging, and code reviews.
  • Experience working with deployed models, data pipelines, feature generation, monitoring, or retraining is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to travel to 2-4 onsite events in Utah each year.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary of $110,000 to $130,000 per year, commensurate with experience and scope.
  • Full-time role with a 40-hour work week.
  • Remote work within the United States, with a hybrid team setup.
