Description

  • Build, manage, and mentor a team of battery mechanical and thermal engineers.
  • Own the mechanical architecture of high-voltage, high-energy-density battery packs.
  • Design structural frames, cell-to-pack/cell-to-module integration, sealing, and containment solutions.
  • Oversee thermal management system design, including passive, liquid-cooled, and phase-change approaches.
  • Lead mitigation strategies for propagation and thermal runaway risks.
  • Partner with electrical, chemistry, systems, and product teams to define requirements and interfaces.
  • Work with manufacturing and supply chain partners to move designs into high-rate production.
  • Define assembly processes, tooling requirements, and end-of-line testing.
  • Define and execute mechanical and environmental qualification test plans.
  • Ensure designs meet relevant shock, vibration, thermal cycling, altitude, abuse, and battery safety standards.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of mechanical design experience with high-voltage lithium-ion battery packs or energy storage systems.
  • 3+ years of direct engineering management experience.
  • Deep experience with mechanical design tools such as NX or SolidWorks and PLM systems such as Teamcenter.
  • Strong understanding of battery pack safety principles, including thermal runaway isolation, venting, and high-voltage isolation.
  • Hands-on experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for structural/vibration analysis and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for thermal management.
  • Familiarity with battery standards and regulatory testing such as UN 38.3, NAVSEA SG IX, UL 2580, and DO-311.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or automotive EV sectors is preferred.
  • Experience with automated assembly processes, cell bonding, and high-volume manufacturing is preferred.
  • Experience with subsea pressure vessel design or high-altitude aerospace thermal management is preferred.
