Description

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor on the Commodity Exchange Act and NFA rules.
  • Lead the end-to-end strategy for regulatory licensing and registration, including exemption frameworks.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate margin lending agreements, ISDA/CSA documentation, and related disclosure materials.
  • Partner with Trading, Operations, Risk, Engineering, and Product teams to embed compliance into workflows and platform design.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise leadership on business and compliance impacts.
  • Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, and NFA examinations, including document production and regulator communications.
  • Support launch and scaling of new derivative products and cross-border initiatives.
  • Develop internal rules-to-workflow frameworks to reduce regulatory risk and prevent breaches.
  • Share licensing-related knowledge across relevant teams as applications progress.
  • Communicate priorities and the rationale behind legal work to cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree with a focus on financial services, commodities, or corporate law.
  • 4+ years of legal experience, including at least 3+ years focused on CFTC and NFA regulatory matters.
  • Deep knowledge of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) and Dodd-Frank Act Title VII.
  • Experience with OTC products, margin lending, and the legal lifecycle of futures and swaps.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills, including experience with ISDA/CSA documentation or clearing agreements.
  • Experience working closely with business, Trading, Engineering, and Risk teams on new financial products and jurisdictional issues.
  • Enthusiasm for crypto and understanding of how digital assets intersect with CFTC/NFA jurisdiction.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage licensing applications and regulatory audits simultaneously.
  • Ability to execute with moderate supervision while balancing growth objectives and legal compliance.
  • Previous in-house legal experience at a fintech firm, hedge fund, major financial institution, or top-tier regulatory law practice.
  • Familiarity with market infrastructure, including electronic trading platforms, central clearing, and margin/collateral management.
