Description

  • Own the telemetry data pipeline from AWS IoT Core and Kafka into TimescaleDB, including legacy GCP Pub/Sub integration.
  • Improve pipeline stability, scalability, throughput, correctness, latency, and cost.
  • Evolve and maintain the GraphQL contract and BFF layer for web and mobile clients.
  • Design and support secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs.
  • Drive infrastructure and observability cost per device down while removing performance bottlenecks.
  • Improve Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, batching, backpressure, and hot-path isolation.
  • Use Grafana and related observability tools to monitor the pipeline, identify slow queries, and maintain effective alerts.
  • Plan and execute safe production changes using staged rollouts, shadow validation, and rollback.
  • Review and collaborate on frontend, mobile, firmware, and service work to trace issues end to end.
  • Act as a senior voice in incident response and reduce recurring support load.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience building and operating production backend systems.
  • Meaningful experience with high-throughput streaming or time-series data.
  • Deep practical experience with Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, rebalancing, ordering, idempotency, and schema evolution.
  • Strong SQL and time-series database experience with TimescaleDB, ClickHouse, InfluxDB, or equivalent.
  • Experience designing secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs for web and mobile clients.
  • Experience migrating a live system without downtime using parallel writes, shadow validation, staged cutover, and rollback.
  • Fluency in TypeScript/Node.js; services are largely built with NestJS.
  • Production experience with AWS, including ECS, IoT Core, networking, and Terraform/IaC.
  • Go experience is a plus, especially for latency-sensitive paths.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation.
  • Strong production operations judgment and incident-management experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
