Description

  • Design and execute an integrated engagement strategy across fundraising, partnerships, marketing, alumni/community engagement, and stewardship.
  • Lead fundraising and business development efforts, including major gifts, foundation support, corporate giving, and development campaigns.
  • Build and manage relationships with high-net-worth individuals, philanthropic foundations, institutional donors, and strategic partners.
  • Partner with the CEO, senior leadership, and Board to identify, cultivate, and steward key donors and stakeholders.
  • Develop funding propositions, stewardship programs, reporting systems, and impact communications for donors and partners.
  • Lead the university’s marketing, branding, public relations, and external communications strategy.
  • Oversee impact reporting and storytelling that translate outcomes into compelling narratives for stakeholders.
  • Lead alumni, parent, staff, and community engagement initiatives that strengthen lifelong relationships with the university.
  • Represent the university in external forums, strategic alliances, and high-level stakeholder relationships.
  • Build and lead a high-performing Stakeholder Engagement team with clear goals, metrics, and operating standards.

Requirements

  • Significant leadership experience in fundraising, partnerships, external affairs, or stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven track record of building relationships that lead to funding, partnerships, or institutional growth.
  • Experience working with senior leaders, boards, donors, and global networks.
  • Familiarity with Africa’s development, philanthropic, or innovation ecosystems.
  • Higher education experience is valuable but not required.
  • Deep alignment with Africa’s development and ALU’s mission.
  • Strong strategic judgment for engaging, influencing, and stewarding stakeholders across sectors and geographies.
  • Ability to translate ambitious ideas into tangible outcomes in a fast-moving environment.
  • Systems thinking across fundraising, partnerships, brand, alumni, and impact functions.
  • Experience designing and executing fundraising strategies, including major gifts and institutional funding.
  • Ability to shape institutional narrative through marketing, PR, and impact reporting.
  • Ability to originate, negotiate, and structure strategic partnerships.
  • Experience building and activating engaged alumni and community networks.
