Description

  • Support mechanical, electrical, and composite fabrication troubleshooting, repair, and testing of integrated systems.
  • Perform composite layup operations using wet layup, prepreg, and out-of-autoclave processes for prototype structural components.
  • Fabricate composite tooling such as molds, caul plates, and layup fixtures to support prototype builds.
  • Execute cure cycles, post-cure operations, and dimensional inspection of composite parts.
  • Perform composite bonding and secondary assembly using aerospace-grade adhesives.
  • Operate and maintain shop equipment and tools, including hand tools, power tools, solder irons, manual lathes, mills, 3D printers, and composite cutting and trimming equipment.
  • Meet scheduled timelines and aggressive deadlines to keep hardware ready for project milestones.
  • Attend project meetings to review schedule, design updates, hardware status, and other critical information.
  • Document build techniques and processes, including composite layup procedures and cure cycle records, to support equipment readiness and handoffs.
  • Build low-volume assemblies in the prototype phase and help keep lab, composite fabrication, and machine shop areas safe, clean, and organized.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent certificate from a technical school.
  • 3+ years of technical experience with emphasis in composites fabrication, machining, rapid prototyping, and electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with composite fabrication methods including wet layup, prepreg, and bonded assembly.
  • Familiarity with composite inspection and repair techniques, including visual and basic NDI methods.
  • General proficiency with Microsoft Office software and general computer skills.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with aircraft and/or Remote Control (R/C) experience.
  • Working knowledge of machine shop tools and proficiency using these systems.
  • Experience building fixtures, tools, parts, or electrical devices.
  • Strong understanding of build and assembly documentation development, including composite process documentation.
  • In-depth knowledge, including repair and test experience, in at least one area: composites, fabrication, mechanics, or electronics.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and PPE requirements for composite material handling.
  • Willingness to travel locally and domestically, including driving and flying, for test site locations and development testing.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Availability for long, irregular hours, including weekends and some holidays, during development and field test periods.
  • Higher education and welding certifications are preferred.
  • Experience with prepreg materials and autoclave or oven cure processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with composite-specific standards and process specifications such as ASTM D3039 and Nadcap composite processing is preferred.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and programming software such as SolidWorks or SURFCAM is preferred.
  • Exposure to 3D additive manufacturing technology is preferred.
  • Machinist skills and GD&T knowledge are preferred.
