Description

  • Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of project assemblies using sound engineering principles and industry standards.
  • Serve as a design and structures engineer for hybrid composite-metallic components used in engine testing stands.
  • Support conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases through validation, customer approval, manufacturing, and operational service.
  • Select materials, determine laminate architecture, create detail and assembly-level CAD models, and design sub-element components.
  • Support manufacturing process development and ensure component designs are manufacturable.
  • Review and disposition nonconforming material against technical requirements.
  • Develop and validate repair processes with the manufacturing team.
  • Support vendor management by reviewing quotes and proposed changes to technical requirements.
  • Contribute to cost-of-poor-quality efforts and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide engineering and technical support in a production environment.

Requirements

  • STEM university degree or equivalent experience with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a STEM advanced degree with at least 8 years of experience.
  • Experience with mechanical and composite design, including machining, joints, fasteners, and welding, in aerospace, defense, automotive, or a similar industry.
  • Experience with GD&T, including determining tolerance requirements.
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills.
  • Strong project ownership, execution, and proactive mindset.
  • Experience developing technical ideas with internal and external customers and converting ideas into programs.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering (preferred).
  • Experience with Creo and Windchill, or NX, FiberSIM, and TeamCenter (preferred).
  • Experience with computer-aided engineering software (preferred).
  • Experience with composite design, analysis, and manufacturing (preferred).
  • Familiarity with non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current, FPI, camera optics, and X-ray (preferred).
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (preferred).
  • Understanding of manufacturing cost and reproducibility (preferred).
  • Familiarity with product development, reliability, and quality control principles (preferred).
  • Experience with configuration management (preferred).
  • Experience with fiber-reinforced polymer composites such as fiberglass, aramid, and/or carbon prepreg and wet layup, especially epoxy resin systems (preferred).
  • Experience with advanced composite and bonded structures design and manufacturing, including organic/polymer matrix composites, fiber reinforcement, manufacturing methods, adhesives, and surface preparation (preferred).
