Description

  • Design and maintain mission-critical brokerage systems and services.
  • Develop middle- and back-office systems, including gRPC microservices, internal React tooling, and vendor integrations.
  • Enhance the core framework to support multiple languages, currencies, and markets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and regional engineering teams across time zones.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and bugs to protect system integrity and performance.
  • Serve as operational reliability and engineering lead and incident commander during regional business hours.
  • Support regional recruitment initiatives and mentor engineers on engineering practices.
  • Participate in on-call coverage for timely engineering projects.
  • Help build scalable solutions that support Alpaca’s international growth and regulatory needs.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and building scalable applications and robust system architectures.
  • Proficiency in Go or similar backend languages.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals and software architecture experience.
  • Experience with event-driven design.
  • Ability to act as incident commander and troubleshoot incidents or bugs.
  • Strong communication skills for working with global teams, regulators, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote, globally distributed, fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate technical concepts into business strategy.
  • Experience with AI tooling such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex (nice to have).
  • Experience in a startup or fast-growing technology company (nice to have).
  • Experience in financial services, online trading platforms, brokerage systems, or fintech (nice to have).
  • Experience with domain-driven design, global teams, and regulatory compliance (nice to have).
  • Experience with complex financial systems, double-entry accounting, market data, order management, and settlement (nice to have).
