Description

  • Advise on regulatory frameworks affecting the design and implementation of financial products and services.
  • Lead legal reviews of product design, marketing, and customer onboarding processes.
  • Advise on new and anticipated legal requirements and their application to systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor regulatory developments from agencies and self-regulatory organizations including the SEC, FINRA, CFTC, FinCEN, and OFAC.
  • Support Alpaca’s engagement with regulators.
  • Draft agreements, disclosures, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct legal research and provide practical guidance on novel legal questions.
  • Manage litigation, arbitration, claims, discovery, and other disputes, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.
  • Partner with Product, Brokerage, Crypto, Compliance, AML, Sales, and Success teams.
  • Support legal matters involving digital assets, payments, and data privacy.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree or foreign equivalent and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 5–7+ years of legal experience, including at least 3 years focused on U.S. broker-dealer regulation.
  • Knowledge of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, FINRA rules, and federal and state securities laws.
  • Familiarity with U.S. cryptoasset regulation, including SEC, CFTC, NYDFS, FinCEN, and AML requirements.
  • Experience advising fintech companies or financial institutions, preferably in a startup or growth-stage environment.
  • Ability to deliver strategic, business-oriented legal advice under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a practical, collaborative working style.
  • Strong judgment, self-motivation, independence, and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity in a fast-scaling company.
