Description

  • Own and evolve the architecture of a distributed, actor-model backend handling real-time positioning and telemetry data at scale.
  • Set technical direction for the .NET backend, including API design, data pipelines, and service boundaries.
  • Design the path toward multi-node Orleans clustering as the platform scales.
  • Review code and provide hands-on technical guidance to backend and full stack engineers.
  • Identify and remediate security and architectural risk areas, including authentication, data handling, and system hardening.
  • Partner with data/telemetry and QA engineers on ingestion pipeline and analytics architecture decisions.
  • Advise on CI/CD, staging environment, and release practices.
  • Act as engineering team lead by setting priorities, unblocking the team, and owning technical quality.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager on sprint planning, delivery status, and risk or blocker escalation.
  • Join client calls to communicate technical progress and tradeoffs, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including senior or lead-level architecture responsibility.
  • Hands-on experience with actor-model distributed systems, with Microsoft Orleans strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Akka or comparable actor-model frameworks considered.
  • Strong backend expertise in C#/.NET, including API design, services, and data pipelines at scale.
  • Experience architecting systems that process real-time or streaming data such as telemetry, sensor data, or WebSockets.
  • Proven track record leading a small engineering team through code review, mentoring, and technical direction setting.
  • Experience working closely with a Project Manager on planning and delivery, including joining client calls to discuss technical topics.
  • Strong written and spoken English, with comfort communicating with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Security-conscious architecture practices, including authentication, PII handling, and system hardening.
  • Experience with GPS/BLE positioning or real-time geospatial systems is preferred.
  • Background in industrial, logistics, or IoT/telemetry domains is preferred.
  • Experience designing for multi-node clustering or horizontal scaling is preferred.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience, with Azure preferred given the .NET/Orleans stack.
