Description

  • Design and implement automated trading systems for UK energy markets (day-ahead, intraday, balancing, ancillary services).
  • Build real-time bidding, dispatch optimization, and pricing algorithms for LAES assets.
  • Integrate trading systems with grid operators and market platforms.
  • Develop monitoring dashboards, alerting systems, and operational analytics for plant performance and stability island operations.
  • Create high-throughput data ingestion and streaming pipelines using Kafka and PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB (including pg_partman where applicable).
  • Build microservices and RESTful APIs for trading platforms, market integration, and system control.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Data teams for deployment, monitoring, and production support of services.
  • Participate in code reviews, maintain high code quality, testing practices, and support remote team coordination and modern development workflows.

Requirements

  • Strong software-engineering fundamentals in architecture, testing, and code quality.
  • Proficiency in Python or readiness to ramp up quickly (~3 weeks).
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and RESTful APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar streaming platforms.
  • Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL and time-series data processing (TimescaleDB, pg_partman).
  • Familiarity with data-pipeline frameworks and real-time processing.
  • Experience with Docker/containerized applications and understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability practices.
  • Proficiency with Git and Agile development workflows.
  • Nice to have: Rust experience, exposure to energy markets/trading systems/optimization algorithms, and interest in industrial control systems/IoT/operational data.
  • Highly desirable: hands-on experience building software with agentic AI coding systems (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Open Code, Cursor), including proficiency with at least two agentic systems, end-to-end development using these tools, multi-agent orchestration, and familiarity with hooks/permission systems/MCP servers/custom skills and tool definitions.
