Description

  • Develop and enhance AI models, machine learning services, and tools for customer support and related Airbnb use cases.
  • Fine-tune state-of-the-art large language models for diverse product and operational applications.
  • Optimize models and inference workflows for high-performance deployment on Airbnb’s ML infrastructure.
  • Work with large-scale structured and unstructured data to explore, experiment, and continuously improve foundation models.
  • Build and productionize LLM models and pipelines for both batch and real-time use cases.
  • Evaluate and refine foundation models to select high-quality models for performance and efficiency.
  • Drive AI architectural decisions for products and contribute to Airbnb’s ML platform architecture and strategy.
  • Partner with product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and operations teams to design and develop AI products.
  • Create a multi-year technical roadmap to keep the team aligned with rapid advances in AI.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience developing machine learning models and products at scale from inception to business impact.
  • Programming experience in Python and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Proven experience training, fine-tuning, optimizing models, and improving inference runtime.
  • Post-training experience in data processing for fine-tuning, responsible LLMs, LLM alignment, reinforcement learning, efficient training and inference, language model evaluation, or multilingual and multimodal modeling.
  • Specialized experience in runtime optimizations, model quantization, compression, on-device inference, GPU inference, PyTorch, or kernel development.
  • Experience working with large-scale structured and unstructured data is preferred.
  • Experience leading or contributing to ML architecture and platform strategy is preferred.
  • Experience with LLM evaluation and testing automation, feedback-based learning, or guardrails is preferred.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $248,000 to $310,000 USD.
  • Eligible for bonus.

  • US remote-eligible role.
  • Occasional work from an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be included, as agreed with the manager.
