Description

  • Build and deploy production AI/ML models for identity fraud detection and identity verification.
  • Develop feature engineering, model evaluation, threshold selection, error analysis, and model lifecycle management processes.
  • Conduct experiments and lead quantitative analyses to measure impact, identify gaps, and surface opportunities for improvement.
  • Design and implement methodologies and frameworks to evaluate tradeoffs and optimize the impact of new interventions.
  • Create and automate human-in-the-loop ML workflows for fraud classification and label generation.
  • Deploy real-time anomaly detection systems to identify emerging threats across regions, cohorts, and platforms.
  • Design intelligent sampling jobs to estimate rare event prevalence and measure recall and false positive/negative rates.
  • Produce research reports and data visualizations that communicate findings clearly to cross-functional partners.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and operations teams to improve identity verification systems and defenses.
  • Think strategically about ways to scale identity verification processes and anti-abuse defenses.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience in a quantitative analysis role with a Master’s degree in a quantitative field, or 2+ years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • State-of-the-art knowledge of AI/ML models.
  • Strong knowledge of causal inference.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming with Python or R and database usage with SQL.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to audiences with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Ability to translate complex findings into compelling narratives that drive impact.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in Trust & Safety is a plus.
  • Experience with identity verification technologies such as biometrics, NFC chips, and Apple/Google integrations is preferred.
  • Experience with fraud detection approaches such as computer vision, LLMs, or graph-based models is preferred.

Benefits

  • US - Remote Eligible, with occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites.
  • Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity; eligible states are subject to the current exclusion list.
  • Base pay range of $177,000 to $208,000 USD.
  • Eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
