Description

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and data pipelines for media ingestion, processing, and serving at scale.
  • Build platform capabilities that trigger ML/AI analysis workflows on media assets and store extracted metadata.
  • Serve media intelligence and results to downstream teams and product surfaces across Airbnb.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to understand media needs and build self-serve solutions.
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency of existing media infrastructure.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce infrastructure costs through image transformations, storage optimizations, and vendor consolidation.
  • Support platform modernization and expansion to additional media types such as images, videos, and animations.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to their career development.
  • Stay current with trends in distributed systems, media processing, ML infrastructure, and workflow orchestration.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
  • Strong foundation in building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with media-related technologies such as image processing, video transcoding, or metadata management.
  • Experience building data pipelines, batch processing systems, or platforms that support ML/AI workflows is highly valued.
  • Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar backend languages.
  • Experience designing APIs and data models.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional teams, including ML/AI infrastructure experts.
  • US remote eligibility with residence in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
  • Experience in workflow orchestration frameworks or similar infrastructure technologies is preferred.

Benefits

  • US - Remote Eligible with occasional office or offsite visits.
  • Base pay range of $191,000 to $223,000 USD.
  • May be eligible for bonus.
  • May be eligible for equity.
  • May be eligible for benefits.
  • May be eligible for Employee Travel Credits.
