Description

  • Assess the US indirect tax position of business models and translate complex rules into practical guidance.
  • Analyze tax implications of new and existing programs, products, and partnerships and implement tax requirements in internal systems.
  • Monitor US state and local tax developments and related Canadian indirect tax changes, then plan and execute compliance updates.
  • Review and advise on contracts from an indirect tax perspective, including marketplace, digital platform, and travel-specific issues.
  • Lead indirect tax projects and build work plans for compliant and timely launches of new services, products, and markets.
  • Manage and influence cross-functional stakeholders across Commercial, Product, Legal, Finance, and IT.
  • Support and review reconciliation of revenue, purchases, and indirect tax balances with the financials.
  • Coordinate with external advisors on US indirect tax matters and support accurate, timely reporting and payments.
  • Champion indirect tax awareness across Agoda and contribute to the long-term vision of the tax team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Tax, Economics, Law, Accounting, Finance, or a related business field; graduate degree in taxation, CPA, or JD is an asset.
  • At least 8 years of indirect tax experience at a Big 4 firm, top law firm, or major in-house tax function.
  • Deep technical knowledge of US Sales and Use Tax and state and local taxes.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian GST/HST, QST, and PST, or broader VAT/GST experience in a global environment, is a nice to have.
  • Experience leading medium- and high-complexity cross-functional projects from problem definition through implementation.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tax issues to senior leadership.
  • Experience configuring indirect tax in ERP platforms such as Oracle or in tax engines is an asset.
  • E-commerce, marketplace, or travel industry experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, results-oriented mindset with comfort owning ambiguous challenges.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams at all levels.
  • Ability to adapt communication style for senior leadership, commercial teams, product, and engineering while presenting tax positions confidently.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Can-do attitude and sound judgment when working with incomplete information.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
