Description

  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with teaching staff built on mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Attend statewide and countywide coach training and networking sessions.
  • Coach teachers side-by-side through observation, low-inference feedback, co-planning, goal-setting, reflective conversations, co-teaching, and modeling instructional moves.
  • Work directly with teachers individually and in small groups to strengthen classroom literacy environments and research-informed literacy practices.
  • Support implementation of new literacy programs, strategies, and practices aligned with state standards.
  • Provide job-embedded feedback as teachers reflect on, set goals for, practice, and refine literacy instruction.
  • Analyze formative assessment and diagnostic data to create instructional plans and guide teacher development goals.
  • Support teachers in collecting and analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Lead, organize, and facilitate professional learning communities and small or large group meetings for K-3 teachers.
  • Meet regularly with district literacy leaders and the WRESA Coaching Network, and record coaching activities using COSA tools and templates.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in literacy, Reading Specialist certification, Reading Recovery Training, or equivalent training focused on research-based early literacy practices.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree, advanced coursework in literacy, or a related field.
  • 5 or more years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience facilitating grade-level or team-level professional learning.
  • Knowledge of current state literacy standards and the MAISA GELN Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy.
  • In-depth knowledge of reading and writing processes and acquisition.
  • Experience using formative, screening, and diagnostic assessment tools to inform instruction.
  • Ability to use observational data and formative assessment processes to guide professional learning and coaching.
  • Proficiency with technology-based instructional and organizational tools.
  • Willingness to invest in ongoing professional learning through reading, workshops, and local, state, and national conferences.
  • Ability to provide and receive feedback to adjust practice.
