Description

  • Manage, coach, and mentor a team of character artists to support their growth and output.
  • Set artistic standards, build reference assets, and establish workflows to ensure consistent character quality.
  • Work with directors, leads, and cross-functional teams to prototype character assets and align specifications with project goals.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and Outsourcing Manager to assign and schedule character assets for external partners.
  • Contribute to material pipelines, track team output, supervise bug distribution, and provide input on custom tools and software.
  • Maintain character development standards in Unreal Engine and support technical and gameplay requirements.
  • Help identify solutions to development obstacles while working closely with design, art, engineering, animation, and audio teams.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in the video game industry.
  • At least 2 shipped titles as a character artist, preferably on a first-person title.
  • Proven success managing, guiding, and mentoring a team of character artists.
  • Expert proficiency with 3ds Max, Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, and Unreal Engine.
  • Mastery of the PBR pipeline for texture creation, including baking tools and Photoshop.
  • Strong traditional art background with expert knowledge of anatomy, composition, proportion, volume, light, and color.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to give difficult feedback with empathy.
  • Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Professional proficiency in both French and English for candidates located in Quebec.
  • Open to feedback, self-motivated, and able to work effectively under pressure and changing priorities.

Benefits

  • Base salary in California expected to be between $150,400 and $180,000 USD per year.
  • Bonus and/or equity awards may be included in the total compensation package.
