Description

  • Build and improve product features across the Zen platform for internal operations teams, educators, and schools.
  • Take ownership of ambiguous problems end-to-end, from problem framing through iterative delivery.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Operations, and other engineers to shape solutions and reset direction when needed.
  • Contribute to backend and frontend development across web and mobile products.
  • Improve core platform areas such as permissions, audit logging, admin tools, and workflow visibility.
  • Support experimentation and AI-enabled development initiatives, including tooling and workflow improvements.
  • Ship regularly and help the team move faster with smaller, iterative releases.
  • Improve developer experience, platform reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in mission-based work that spans different parts of the business based on priorities and strengths.
  • Help grow the US engineering presence by building relationships and contributing to team expansion.

Requirements

  • Remote work aligned to US Central or Eastern Time zones.
  • Full-time availability.
  • Salary is location-dependent, with a general range of $130k-$190k across levels.
  • Strong communication skills for an async, distributed team environment.
  • Ability to think in terms of product outcomes rather than just technical output.
  • Comfort working on ambiguous problems and driving work from problem definition to delivery.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and proactiveness are important traits for success.
  • Experience collaborating across teams and building trust quickly is valued.
  • Willingness to take ownership and speak up when blocked.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, React Native, Heroku, and Cloudflare is relevant (not required as the company hires for mindset over specific tools).
