Description

  • Drive delivery of the Shop Builder developer surface, including the MCP server, CLI, local dev environment, public SDK, documentation pipeline, sandbox and preview environments, and deploy and versioning path.
  • Lead and mentor a team of three engineers by setting technical direction, running code reviews, and maintaining engineering quality.
  • Own cross-team coordination by pulling in API capabilities from payments, auth, live ops, and catalog teams and managing dependencies and integration timelines.
  • Contribute hands-on production code, especially for critical and complex components.
  • Partner with the Principal Engineer to turn architecture decisions into sprint-level execution plans and realistic timelines.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner on roadmap sequencing, scope decisions, and delivery trade-offs.
  • Run the team’s delivery rhythm, including sprint planning, technical grooming, retrospectives, and status reporting to leadership.
  • Define and maintain engineering standards for testing, observability, deployment practices, and documentation quality.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for integrations with headless partners and the MIT professional services team during onboarding.
  • Contribute to hiring by conducting technical interviews and helping define expectations for new engineers.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years in a tech lead, staff, or senior lead role driving delivery across a team.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Experience shipping production APIs, CLIs, or SDKs to external developers.
  • Hands-on experience building CLI tools and developer-facing workflows, including command design, config files, local dev loops, deploy commands, and helpful error messages.
  • Solid understanding of REST API design principles and SDK ergonomics.
  • Practical familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or agentic tool-use patterns.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple engineering teams to ship features dependent on inbound capabilities.
  • Proven ability to lead engineers through clear technical direction, code reviews, and skill development.
  • Cloud-native experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization such as Docker/Kubernetes, and deployment automation on AWS or GCP.
  • Strong communication skills for translating technical complexity into leadership updates and team-ready work.
  • Preferred: experience in game tech, digital commerce, storefront platforms, or headless architecture.
  • Preferred: background building React component libraries, design systems, or frontend platforms used by external developers.
  • Preferred: experience building sandboxed execution environments for third-party code.
  • Preferred: familiarity with LLM-generated code evaluation for safety and correctness.
  • Preferred: prior experience standing up a greenfield team from scratch.
  • Preferred: exposure to documentation-as-code workflows and multi-surface publishing toolchains.
