Description

  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with payment providers, banks, card networks, financial partners, vendors, and business partners.
  • Advise on payment operations, including payment methods, providers, global money flows, settlement, chargebacks, refunds, reserves, and holdbacks.
  • Advise on KYC/KYB, AML/CFT, sanctions screening, and customer due diligence requirements across markets.
  • Support market expansion through licensing analysis, entity structuring, and legal-entity incorporation and maintenance.
  • Provide practical legal guidance on business initiatives, payment strategies, product offerings, and general legal matters.
  • Monitor and analyze laws and regulations affecting payments, money movement, cryptocurrencies, blockchain, NFTs, and DeFi.
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to develop compliant payment products and services.
  • Identify legal risks early, recommend practical solutions, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in the United States and membership in good standing.
  • At least 5 years of legal experience in fintech, banking, and/or payments.
  • Expertise in payments and familiarity with U.S. and international regulations, including money transmission, BSA/AML, PSD2, MiCA, and card network rules.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial, payment processing, financial services, technology, licensing, vendor, and partnership agreements.
  • Ability to provide practical legal advice in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with product, technology, business operations, and management teams.
  • Availability to work remotely anywhere in the U.S. and travel to the Sherman Oaks, California headquarters approximately twice per year; Los Angeles-area candidates preferred.
  • Successful completion of applicable criminal history, employment, and education verification checks.
