Description

  • Serve as the primary communications partner to the CEO and provide strategic counsel and direct support.
  • Develop and implement executive communications strategies that advance the CEO’s and Foundation’s vision.
  • Support external communications for other executive team members and the Board of Trustees.
  • Identify, shape, and execute thought leadership opportunities for Foundation leaders.
  • Prepare leaders for public speaking, media engagements, interviews, and other public-facing opportunities.
  • Write and ghostwrite speeches, remarks, talking points, social posts, internal emails, briefs, blogs, op-eds, quotes, and external statements.
  • Develop narratives and messaging strategies that explain Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects and their value.
  • Collaborate closely with media relations, internal communications, and the Chief of Staff on cross-functional communications work.
  • Build relationships across departments, teams, reporters, conference organizers, and volunteer communities to surface trends and opportunities.
  • Manage crisis communications preparation for executives in partnership with broader communications teams.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional communications experience, including several years supporting C-level executives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging for different stakeholders.
  • Experience working directly with senior leadership and demonstrating executive presence.
  • Experience navigating crisis communications and preparing executives for sensitive or rapidly changing situations.
  • Proven ability to pitch stories, engage press, staff media interviews, and manage key relationships.
  • Experience developing social media strategy for specific channels such as LinkedIn and TikTok.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and projects.
  • Detail-oriented with experience maintaining systems and documentation for complex projects.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, potentially 3–5 trips per year, and work across time zones.
  • Preference for candidates in the Eastern Time zone and/or with Wikimedia community involvement or editing experience.
