Description

  • Review patient medical records to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • Create, review, and submit clean claims to insurance payers using billing software.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims, manage denials, and initiate appeals to support accounts receivable.
  • Handle patient billing inquiries, explain insurance coverage, and set up payment plans.
  • Communicate weekly about billing blockers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations and applicable CMS guidelines.
  • Ensure accuracy between assigned codes and documented time, and document all interactions for clinical continuity and reimbursement.
  • Assist Revenue Cycle and Operations teams in testing new workflows and documenting effective processes as the company scales.
  • Take on special projects and adapt to evolving daily tasks in a startup environment.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience as a biller and/or coder, or equivalent education/certification.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or equivalent certification required.
  • Experience navigating multiple software tools such as Slack, EMRs, and Google Suite simultaneously.
  • Spreadsheet experience, preferably with Google Sheets, is required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on the phone and in writing about complex insurance issues.
  • High attention to detail and ability to catch missing or incorrect information.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and helping define a role as the company grows.
