Description

  • Lead as Incident Commander during cross-functional disruptions, coordinating response efforts and real-time decision-making.
  • Manage and prioritize escalations while ensuring the right stakeholders are represented throughout the incident lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain cross-functional partnerships to understand stakeholder concerns and communicate incident outcomes and learnings.
  • Support global Operations teams during real-time incident response to maintain 24/7 coverage.
  • Lead incident retrospectives, document root causes, define follow-up actions, and track implementation of improvements.
  • Deliver executive-level communications on active incidents, trends, and strategic learnings.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Legal, Safety, Policy, Communications, and other stakeholders during critical events.
  • Maintain accurate incident documentation, including timelines, contributing factors, and post-incident analysis.

Requirements

  • Experience with event mapping initiatives to improve incident action planning and stakeholder coordination.
  • Technical expertise and cross-functional leadership in complex engineering or operational environments.
  • Ability to remain calm, decisive, and effective under pressure in rapidly evolving, high-stakes situations.
  • Experience briefing senior executives or leadership in real time on complex incidents.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong track record of documenting incident timelines and analysis.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation across a global follow-the-sun model.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as Emergency Management, Business, Operations, Law, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Experience leading crisis and incident response as an Incident Commander in large-scale or high-impact environments (preferred).
  • Experience working with external stakeholders such as law enforcement, regulators, or legal counsel (preferred).
  • Experience in highly regulated industries such as Automotive, Maritime, Aviation, or similar sectors (preferred).
  • Certifications or alignment with incident management frameworks such as NIMS/ICS or ITIL Incident Management (preferred).

Benefits

  • £92,000–£96,500 GBP base salary range.
  • Eligibility for Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program.
  • Eligibility for Waymo’s equity incentive plan.
  • Access to Waymo’s generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
  • 10% travel.
