Description

  • Lead development of the end-to-end system for the simulation-based "virtual driver’s test" used to evaluate software releases.
  • Oversee ongoing operations and administration of the fault-discovery system to support Waymo’s deployment schedule.
  • Improve the signal quality of the evaluation system and assess whether test results predict real-world driving behavior.
  • Collaborate with partner engineering and data science teams on analysis, measurement, and evaluation methods.
  • Align system design with broader best practices and infrastructure across the release simulation and evaluation ecosystem.
  • Surface key requirements and feature requests to partner teams to inform their roadmaps.
  • Apply ML models from partner teams, and optionally contribute to model development, to make the evaluation process more efficient.
  • Use simulation to identify the most interesting scenarios and report the most interesting results.
  • Partner with Data Science and Systems Engineering teams on technical analysis and understanding of Waymo Driver internals.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of full-time software engineering experience, or a quantitative PhD with 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • C++ proficiency.
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Familiarity with SQL.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in autonomous driving and simulation plus evaluation work, with eagerness to learn.
  • 10+ years of industry experience preferred, including 2+ years in a quantitative- or quality-focused engineering role as a technical lead.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science preferred.
  • Experience working with large FAANG-scale distributed systems preferred.
  • Experience building software reliability evaluation systems preferred.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $238,000 to $302,000 USD.
