Description

  • Develop algorithms to improve the accuracy and robustness of core state estimation systems.
  • Engineer and deploy production-quality C++ software that fuses inertial, GNSS, and other sensor data for new and existing vehicle platforms.
  • Build and maintain tools, pipelines, and evaluation frameworks to assess positioning performance across millions of miles of driving data.
  • Analyze large-scale Waymo datasets to tune sensor models, characterize system performance, identify failure root causes, and establish performance guarantees.
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team to solve complex technical challenges and share expertise.
  • Contribute to maintaining high engineering standards across the team.

Requirements

  • MS, PhD, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Expertise in state estimation theory and application, including Kalman filters, particle filters, factor graphs, and nonlinear optimization techniques.
  • Deep understanding of inertial navigation principles, including sensor modeling, IMU error characterization, calibration, and multi-sensor fusion with GNSS and other aiding sensors.
  • Strong C++ skills and the ability to write high-quality production code.
  • Preferred experience in the autonomous vehicle industry, especially in inertial navigation, localization, perception, or sensor fusion.
  • Preferred experience with computer vision, visual inertial odometry, SLAM, ICP, or related sensor modalities.
  • Preferred experience building tools for large-scale data analysis and visualization using SQL, Python, NumPy, Pandas, or Matplotlib.
  • Preferred familiarity with machine learning techniques applied to sensor fusion, sensor calibration, or positioning problems.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $204,000 to $259,000 USD.
  • Eligibility for Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program.
  • Eligibility for Waymo’s equity incentive plan.
