Description

  • Design, train, and deploy machine learning models to automate the creation of Waymo's HD maps.
  • Apply advanced machine learning techniques, including vision-language models and generative AI, to improve mapping automation.
  • Own the full model development lifecycle from data mining and processing through training, evaluation, validation, and productionization.
  • Collaborate with partner ML teams such as Waymo Perception and Waymo AI Foundations to translate research into scalable production solutions.
  • Work on the infrastructure and systems needed to store, process, and distribute map data.
  • Support mapping efforts that combine automatic and manual techniques to build high-resolution maps.
  • Partner with other teams that consume map data to ensure the mapping system meets downstream needs.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning, with a strong focus on computer vision and/or deep learning.
  • Proficiency in at least one major deep learning framework such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX.
  • Demonstrated experience owning problems end-to-end and working across multiple parts of the systems stack to deliver results.
  • B.S. in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with foundation models and model adaptation techniques such as few-shot learning, transfer learning, or domain adaptation is preferred.
  • A track record of publications in top-tier ML/CV conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ICCV, or ECCV is preferred.
  • Experience with C++ is preferred.
  • Direct experience with mapping or GIS is preferred.

  • Base salary range of $204,000 to $259,000 USD.
