Description

Design, develop, test, and deploy new features for SQL-based query APIs and metric-generation systems.
Analyze and improve the performance and scalability of the query execution engine.
Write well-structured, testable, and maintainable code in C++ and SQL.
Monitor system health and performance and proactively address issues.
Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and engineers to define data requirements and analysis solutions.
Work across Simulation, Planner, Behavior, Perception, and Commercialization teams to support evaluation needs.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
3+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
Demonstrated ability to debug and solve technical problems.
Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as C++, Java, or Python.
Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries.
Effective communication and collaboration skills in a team environment.
Familiarity with GoogleSQL/Postgres SQL and query execution engines such as F1 Query or Postgres (preferred).
Experience with performance profiling, benchmarking, and system optimization (preferred).
Previous exposure to data analysis, metrics, or evaluation platforms (preferred).
Academic background in mathematics or statistics, or equivalent industry experience (preferred).
Experience with large-scale distributed systems and data processing frameworks (preferred).

Benefits

Base salary range of $170,000 to $216,000 USD.
Eligibility for Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program.
Eligibility for Waymo’s equity incentive plan.
Access to Waymo’s generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
