Description

  • Develop and refine engineering designs, specifications, and procedures to eliminate single points of failure across mechanical, electrical, and civil systems in critical facilities.
  • Perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify weaknesses, quantify risk, and recommend mitigations.
  • Review design documents, equipment specifications, construction submittals, and factory test results to ensure compliance with targeted redundancy topologies.
  • Create Integrated Systems Testing and operational readiness procedures to validate failover capability and infrastructure resilience.
  • Ensure redundancy designs and modifications comply with industry standards, codes, safety regulations, internal reliability metrics, and availability SLAs.
  • Complete redundancy projects within allocated time and budget.
  • Collaborate with project managers and vendor partners to prioritize and scope capital improvement projects focused on redundancy upgrades, system modernization, and facility risk reduction.
  • Lead the redundancy review process from conceptual design through construction with cross-functional engineering teams and external consultants.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional experience designing, implementing, and commissioning mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Experience with mechanical systems such as HVAC and cooling systems, electrical power systems such as UPS, switchgear, and generators, and/or civil/structural systems.
  • Expert-level knowledge of redundancy topologies such as N, N+1, N+2, 2N, and 2N+1.
  • Ability to design and validate systems that meet target SLAs for uptime and availability.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and external consultants.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant building codes, industry standards such as Uptime Institute Tiers and ANSI/TIA-942, and safety regulations related to critical power, fire suppression, and structural integrity.
  • Certification or industry designation in project, engineering, or facilities services preferred.
  • Experience in mixed-use environments such as office, industrial, labs, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Demonstrable project management skills and ability to advance projects with undefined scope and align stakeholders preferred.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 35% of the time, including travel between Bay Area and Washington DC.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $178,000 to $192,000 USD.
  • Eligibility for Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program.
