  • Design and implement fast physics solvers for use in agentic optimization loops.
  • Develop surrogate models that approximate high-fidelity simulations at much lower cost.
  • Integrate accelerated solvers and surrogates into the ACE platform for AI agent use.
  • Work with the ACE Applications Lead to define key regimes, quantities of interest, and physical credibility checks.
  • Create and curate training and validation datasets using commercial or open-source solvers and automated parameter sweeps.
  • Profile and optimize GPU kernels and numerical pipelines to achieve major speedups while preserving accuracy.
  • Develop test harnesses, benchmarks, and diagnostics to monitor model accuracy, stability, and performance.
  • Use LLMs to speed up coding, experiment scripting, documentation, and numerical simulation work.
  • Leverage advanced LLM tooling to assist with complex mathematics and simulation generation.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computational Physics, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science with a focus on numerical methods, or a related field; or a Master’s degree plus 3 years of highly relevant experience.
  • 0–3 years of post-PhD industry, startup, or postdoctoral experience, or 3–6 years total experience in computational science/engineering.
  • Hands-on experience implementing numerical methods for PDEs in research or production environments.
  • Experience with at least one scientific computing or ML framework such as JAX, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
  • Experience with at least one GPU or performance-oriented technology such as CUDA or PhysicsNEMO.
  • Demonstrated experience speeding up simulations or building physics surrogate models with quantitative results.
  • Demonstrated AI-first workflow using LLMs to generate, refactor, and test code.
  • Experience with CFD, thermal, structural, plasma, electrical, power, or electromagnetic simulations is preferred.
  • Experience with physics-informed neural networks, neural operators, or other ML-based surrogates is preferred.
  • Familiarity with differentiable programming and adjoint methods is preferred.
