Description

  • Own core platform services and major business-critical migrations from proposal through production.
  • Operate containerized workloads and delivery systems, including orchestration, GitOps deployments, progressive rollouts, rollbacks, and service mesh.
  • Architect and manage Voltus’s AWS foundation, including multi-account governance, IAM, networking, DNS, certificates, and connectivity to grid operators.
  • Manage identity, secrets, encryption, workload access, SSO/OIDC, Vault, and key rotation using least-privilege principles.
  • Operate stateful systems such as databases, message brokers, caches, and time-series stores, including upgrades, replication, backups, and restores.
  • Build observability through distributed tracing, metrics, SLOs, alerting, dashboards, and testing frameworks for dispatch-critical systems.
  • Develop infrastructure as code and developer tooling using Terraform, GitHub, Buildkite, Docker, Nomad, and internal tools.
  • Introduce and operate Kubernetes alongside Nomad and guide decisions about workload placement and platform adoption.
  • Build secure infrastructure and guardrails for AI-assisted development and internal AI tooling.
  • Mentor engineers, document systems, coordinate cross-team infrastructure work, and participate in on-call operations.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including several years in DevOps or SRE roles operating production systems.
  • Strong production development experience in Go and/or Python, including service development, testing, and code quality.
  • End-to-end ownership of infrastructure projects, preferably stateful or business-critical migrations with minimal disruption and rollback planning.
  • Deep AWS experience with multi-account organizations, IAM, cross-account access, VPC and network design, DNS, secrets, and encryption key management.
  • Deep hands-on production Kubernetes experience, including cluster upgrades, networking, ingress, RBAC, resource management, autoscaling, and troubleshooting under load.
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or similar tools.
  • Deep observability experience, including metrics, alerts, dashboards, distributed tracing, and open-source tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
  • Operational experience with relational databases and/or message brokers, including upgrades, replication changes, and tested restores.
  • Clear communication, documentation, mentoring, and cross-team collaboration skills.
  • Experience with HashiCorp Nomad, Consul, and Vault; EKS, ArgoCD or Flux, Helm, OpenTelemetry, self-hosted CI, AWS Organizations, identity migrations, developer tooling, or AI infrastructure is preferred.
  • Authorized to work from the home location in the US or Canada; Voltus does not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires.

  • Availability to overlap with the Eastern time zone for at least four workday hours.
