Description

  • Intervene in state regulatory proceedings by drafting comments and advocacy pleadings supporting company positions.
  • Advocate for company positions before state commission staff, ISO/RTO stakeholders, and FERC.
  • Track rulemakings, tariff changes, and other initiatives across 2-3 wholesale electric markets and develop supportive positions.
  • Coordinate closely with the Energy Markets team on wholesale market and state commission advocacy and policy work.
  • Determine appropriate courses of action, including working through trade associations when needed, to influence initiatives and drive change.
  • Serve as a public advocate and spokesperson by participating in stakeholder meetings, drafting filings, and meeting with key decision-makers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, federal and state officials, ISO/RTOs, environmental groups, consumer groups, and trade associations.
  • Work across the organization to understand the business and apply that knowledge to advocacy efforts.
  • Manage responsibilities with increasing independence after onboarding, with limited oversight from the Chief Regulatory Officer.

Requirements

  • 4-5 years of experience in energy policy or regulation with successful direct advocacy outcomes.
  • A JD is desired; another graduate degree is required.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to draft regulatory filings when necessary.
  • Excellent oral communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to allocate limited resources effectively.
  • Ability to synthesize information across engineering, energy markets, and finance into clear communications.
  • Comfort with measurable performance metrics and results-driven accountability.
  • Must be authorized to work from home in the US or Canada; Voltus does not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires.
  • Ability to work in a primarily home-country remote arrangement, with any work while traveling internationally subject to approval.
  • Submission of a writing sample, ideally regulatory comments or pleadings filed with a state commission, FERC, or an ISO/RTO.
