Description

  • Own delivery for significant features or systems from requirements clarification through design, execution, shipping, and iteration.
  • Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that support core product functionality.
  • Drive system design decisions that balance scalability, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Define quality measures for the area, including success metrics, testing strategy, and observability, and automate them where possible.
  • Lead structured experimentation by defining hypotheses, evaluating results, and turning insights into product and system improvements.
  • Improve operational readiness through deployment automation, monitoring and alerting, incident response, and performance optimization.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on technical guidance.
  • Influence engineering best practices, architecture decisions, and long-term technical direction.
  • Own critical components end-to-end and drive measurable improvements in system quality, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with technical leads, senior stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and compliant systems.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of overall software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building and shipping production systems in product teams.
  • 5+ years of hands-on coding experience.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and advanced system design experience.
  • Hands-on coding in Python and/or TypeScript, or similar languages, with experience building APIs, services, and data pipelines.
  • Experience designing and scaling distributed systems in production environments.
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and observability.
  • Ability to own systems end-to-end from design through production and iteration.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with evolving requirements.
  • Strong experimentation mindset with the ability to define metrics, build evaluation approaches, and iterate quickly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience building data-driven or ML-enabled systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with experimentation frameworks, A/B testing, or performance optimization is preferred.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, streaming systems, or large-scale data processing is preferred.
  • Exposure to modern AI tools or integrations is preferred.
  • Contributions to open source, technical blogs, or conference talks are preferred.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $104,300 to $130,000 CAD.
